We have customers calling with this 20-0254-4001 number usually about 3 times a month. They are finding this number on the bottom of the door closer, usually on the back of the closer, so the only way to find it, is to take it off the door. The number is telling us you have a Yale Door Closer 50 (0254), new style (0254), with a size 4 spring (0254) . The Yale Door Closer we send will work in place of it, but it will have an adjustable spring, with a hole spacing of 3/4″ x 9-1/16″. On these door closer, especially the older models we find Eaton Corp, and Scoville on them also. Below are some of the different numbers we find and what should be purchased, just follow the link.

I have a Yale door closer with a part #20-0053-4001 for our lobby doors that is leaking oil. The replacement needs to hold the door open as well as closing it gently. The door with the problem is an interior storefront glass door.
Cheryl,
The 20-0053-4001 is a discontinued Yale 50 Series. The 0053 is telling me it is an old style closer, with a size 3 spring. You can use a newer Yale 50 Series, but the hole spacing will not match up. Of you can use an International Door Closer 883, which would have the same foot print as your current closer.
