One of the biggest decisions is whether to use rubber or vinyl stair treads. Rubber has a lot of positives attributes, like appearance, long life and higher friction coefficient. Some of the negatives are price and cost of shipping. The cost is due the fact that each rubber stair tread is individually molded, which means they are made one at a time, which very labor intensive. Because the rubber treads are molded, they can have patterns on them like raised disc’s, squares or rectangles. Vinyl Stair Treads on the other hand are extruded through a die, the result is a continuously fed piece, which is much more cost effective. Because they are fed through a die, the only pattern they can have are continuous ridges along the fall line. The R.C. Musson 400 Series Heavy Duty Vinyl Stair Tread is perfect compromise for the rubber stair treads. This stair tread features a 1/4″ thick tread at the nose, 12″ deep tread and a nose that drops 1-1/4″. This tread has 21 ridges that run the length of the tread to prevent slipping. They come in 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 60, 72, 84, and 96″ widths, and are easily cut in the field with a straight edge and a utility knife.

The R.C. Musson 334 Koroseal Vinyl Stair Treads are ideal for residential and light commercial applications. This is one of our favorite stair treads for the do it your selfers. They are easy to install with very easy cutting, and are ideal for basement steps. They are a lighter weight, economy gauge with a round rib design. The curve-around nose fits round or square nose steps. The stair treads are 5/64″ thick, 10″ deep, and are offered in 18″, 24″, 36″, 48″ or 72″ widths. We stock the 18″, 24″ and 36″ widths, the other sizes ship within 1-2 days. They come in Brown or Black colors. For installation we recommend a contact cement, or the new R.C. The R. C. Musson 787 Disc-O-Treds Rubber Stair Tread is one of the heaviest duty stair treads in industry today.  The stair tread is 12-1/2″ deep with an adjustable nose that drops 1-7/8″.  The nose is adjustable to fit returns of 60 to 90 degrees.  This product is available in 36″, 42″, 48″, 54″ 60″ and 72″ widths, and are easily cut in the field with a utility knife and straight edge, or with a circular saw.  The Stair Tread has a nose thickness of 1/4″ that tapers down to 5/32″ in the back.   The tread features  3/4″ diameter raised circular discs that make cleaning easy, thus the Disc-O-Tred name.  The R.C. One of the questions we are asked quite often is, “what stair tread would you recommend for the garage or basement steps?”  My answer is what kind of step do you have?  If the answer is a 2 x 12 plank, I automatically recommend the R.C. Musson 355 Koroseal Vinyl Stair Treads.  The reason is this step cover will cover the nose of your step.  The thickness of a 2 x 12 is 1-3/4″, and the extra long nose on the 355 series will cover it completely.  It is the only vinyl stair tread we have that will cover the nose completely.  Also, Koroseal Vinyl Stair Treads are a lot more economical then rubber stair treads.   Rubber stair treads would be over kill in a residential application, they are a lot more heavy duty, but I doubt you have 500 passages on your garage or basement steps in one day.

Musson DR-CT Diagonal Rib Entrance Carpet Tiles Online.  These carpet tiles are 3/8″ thick x  19-11/16″ x 19-11/16″ square tile and have diagonal rib pattern woven of 100% polypropylene pile yarn with a bitumen backing.  It offers a heavy duty modular carpet tile with excellent scraping and dirt removal properties for high traffic areas. Designed for interior use in entrances, vestibules, lobbies, between double doors, on ramps or in elevators.  You can install in a recess or on the surface. Musson Dirt Catcher Tiles DC225.  The tiles measure 1/2″ thick x 19-11/16″ x 19-11/16″, for a coverage of 2.69 square feet per tile.  They are sold in boxes of 12 tiles only, so the coverage for a box is 32.28 square feet.  They are made of 100% solution dyed polypropylene and are designed for extreme traffic conditions.   The Dirt Catcher Tiles DC225 come in 4 colors, Heath, Mink, Smoke, and Tan.  If you are going to glue them down, we also offer the 320 adhesive which is under the related products.  This product is sometimes call Carpet Tiles, or Entrance Carpet Tiles.  If you have questions on this product, R.C. The R.C. Musson LT-1212 Linear Tiles are an inexpensive option for entrance ways were a previous mat is worn out.  These tiles are 11-7/8″ x 11-7/8″ by 1/2″ thick, and snap together.  Each tile is approximately .979 square feet.  The tiles are manufactured out of recycled PVC and have bristle carpet inserts to brush off dirt, sand, and slush from shoes.  They snap together and are easily cut in the field to size.   They are ideal to replace out old worn out mats were a recess is already in place. Beveled ramp edges are available for non-recessed applications.  This product is part of our sustainable development program where the tiles can be returned at the end of the life cycle for a credit toward replacement product.
